Series: New Age and False Religions — Part 1
I will not seek to define New Age in this teaching. Rather, I want to examine what the scripture says and contrast it with the doctrines that have crept into the world under the banner of "New Age," "spirituality," and alternative religions — and help you understand the believer's mandate in these end times.
The Rise of False Spiritual Systems
We live in an age where many people are spiritually hungry but are turning to the wrong wells. The New Age movement, false religions, and spiritual counterfeits are not new — they are the ancient ways of the enemy dressed in modern clothing. The serpent has always offered alternative paths to knowledge, power, and meaning apart from God.
Scripture forewarned us of this. In 1 Timothy 4:1, the Apostle Paul writes: "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils." We are in those times.
The Believer's Mandate
The believer's response to this age is not fear — it is the bold preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The kingdom mandate has not changed. We are still called to go into all the world, make disciples, and cast out darkness with the light of the Word.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." — Ephesians 6:12
Every false religion and spiritual counterfeit is ultimately a principality — a spiritual system of darkness that must be confronted with the truth of God's Word. The believer is equipped for this fight through the armor of God, the blood of Jesus, and the word of their testimony.
Standing Firm in Truth
In an age of spiritual confusion, the church must be a pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15). We do not compromise the gospel. We do not dilute the message of Christ crucified, risen, and coming again. We hold fast to the whole counsel of God.
The end times are not a season for the church to retreat — they are a season for the church to advance. The gates of hell shall not prevail against her (Matthew 16:18). This is your mandate: preach the Word, in season and out of season, until every person has heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.
